Happy children at a wedding equals happy parents equals a successful wedding!
Restless, bored, hungry, tired children equals… well let’s not go there!
Your first decision is whether or not to invite children to your wedding. If yours is also a destination wedding then it’s a higher cost per family to fly everyone in, same goes for accommodation etc. On the other hand your wedding can be the starting point of a lovely family holiday as well.
First and foremost, it is your wedding! If you are inviting your guests to Spain, you have already broken the conventions and gotten away from the do’s and dont’s. If your budget permits and you are happy for there to be children attending then do invite. If you feel like you’d prefer it to be a without children occasion where all can let their hair down and party away, then skip on the little ones.
If it is your own child or children you are thinking about you have to decide what makes more sense in order for you to enjoy your big day to the max. If leaving them in care of family means that you are constantly thinking about them and are unable to relax, then bring them. If they are old enough to remember and enjoy the day, then by all means bring them. If it’s a baby in question then depending on feeding arrangements, leave it at home or only have it with you for a while. We can also advice on qualified babysitters who can look after your little ones. A good ration is one baby sitter per 5 children depending on age.
One thing is for sure, when there are children attending one must plan for them. All kids are different! A 10-year old can be autonomous and enjoy the same food as adults or require a children’s meal and activities. If you plan on a lot of speeches during dinner then activity books are great or little DIY items like bracelets etc. that the children can assemble and use.
If there are green areas we always bring bouncy horses, balls and bats bocce and blankets with toys for the youngest.
There are also magicians, bouncy castles, soap bubble machines… a whole world of attractions to keep them happy!
Another important thing to think of if you are preparing for a child friendly wedding is the possibility for putting the small guests to sleep at the venue itself . If you are celebrating your wedding at the same place as your guests will accomodate for the night there will be no problem, however, if the party is being held on a separate place you might need to be prepared on the fact that some guests, those with smaller children that is, will leave the party earlier than maybe expected.
We’d be happy to advice you further on any matter related to this subject as our aim is as always to give all our guests a memorable, fantastic experience!
