Once you’ve decided on your catering company it’s time to book your tasting. What should you expect on a tasting day then? To eat in three hours more or less what your guests will be eating in 7… so no breakfast on the tasting day! You will be asked to choose about three starters and mains or other courses you would like to try. Don’t be afraid to suggest alterations. If you love the sound of the monkfish but would prefer to try it with the truffled potatoes that usually accompany the leg of lamb, just say so.
Do keep an ear and an eye out for local specialities such as strawberries from Sant Pol, peas from Maresme, prawns from Arenys de Mar. I do think it heightens the experience to be able to serve these local treasures at one’s event!
Your experience should be level in terms of quality. One “wow experience” is not enough, the quality has to be perfect from the starters to the petit fours. Even though you are full, do taste the bread as well, the caterers know you cannot finish everything they have served you. Look out for coherence but variation in terms of how the dishes are served, how they are presented, how you eat them, colours, shapes, meat, fish and veg ratio. For your canapes remember to ask how many pieces they calculate per person.
You will also be trying wines and sometimes cocktails. I really recommend going for local produce here too, Catalan wines are amazing! Should the one you were first served not be just exactly what you pictured then ask to try another drier, sweeter, lighter one until you get it right.
The food and drink you offer your guests will be a crucial part of your event that people will comment on and remember but remember that it’s your day and to have fun in the process! It is one of the most rewarding things to plan so enjoy it! As always we are happy and available to support, advice and help you in any matter! Just get in touch!
