We love collaborating with organisations that stand for a good causes. That is also why we partner with Hidden City Tours in Barcelona.
Last month we joined their Street Life tour. We started the tour by getting to know Jose, our guide. He was a translator who got laid off and thought he would get a new job quite easily having translated 50 books from English to Spanish…Depression and several suicide attempts took his hope and faith away and he ended up on the streets. Though his social worker he came in contact with Lisa Grace of Hidden City tours and now lives in a shared flat and is a tour guide.
The purpose of the street life tour is to show you another Barcelona, that of the people living on the streets. Where they sleep, eat, get help, have showers and so on. We stopped both by a library on the Rambla and a medical centre in Raval for drug addicts.
Hidden City Tours was founded a year and a half ago by Lisa Grace who herself was without a job after not being welcomed back to work after having her children. The tours include Gourmet tour, Old City and Tapas at the Chiringuito.
Our tour ended with a lovely evening spent in the company of guides Jose, Jaume and Juan with Tapas at the Chiringuito de Dios. Wolfgang founded this soup kitchen 13 years ago and it all started with a hug and a sandwich.
If you are thinking of something to do with friends, family or colleagues whilst visiting Barcelona, why not see a different unique side to this lovely city whilst creating trampolines for the future for the homeless and leaving a positive footprint.
